May 21, 2019 - Update 177

Trash Dog Event # 177
Elk River Road on May 7, 2019

The Trash Dogs returned to the Elk River Road on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 to cleanup a dumpsite located in a tributary creek of the Elk River. This site was found 4.8 miles east of Highway 101 and appeared to have been there for quite some time. We recovered two cubic yards of trash and a small RV refrigerator, most of which was water logged and very stinky because it was laying in a creek bed.

Volunteers on this job were Wayne Sundin, Mark Anderson and Steve Lowe. Dump fees were $44.64, and the refrigerator was hauled to Wes’ Towing for recycle.

We would like to inform all of our great volunteers that the Trash Dogs are still active and will seek your assistance again as the need arises. We have completed several cleanups over the last six months or so and were able to get the jobs done with just three or four volunteers.

Fortunately, it appears there has been less illegal dumping since the Chetco Fire, perhaps due to restricted forest access. However, with summer approaching and more outdoor activity, we may see a rise in irresponsible dumping behavior.

Trash Dogs is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. Donations can be mailed to Trash Dogs, P.O. Box 444, Brookings, Oregon 97415.
